Staying warm in winter doesn’t necessarily mean flinging yourself into hibernation mode. Peel yourself away from the sofa, get your boots on, and try these fantastic winter warmers.

Wrap your hands around a hot cup of tea

It’s no coincidence that the UK, arguably the most cold and miserable place on earth, drinks 165 million cups of tea a day, that’s 62 billion cups a year. It’s time to step up our game. So let’s take a leaf (pun intended) out of the Pommie’s book, and start fostering a steady and healthy addiction to tea. With over 20 teas to choose from, and décor as cool as your toes on a winter morning, Cha Tea is the perfect place to get hooked. Check out their modern take on a classic tea house.

Wrap your hands around a hot cup of booze

What’s better than hot tea? Hot alcohol, obviously. Finders Keepers in Burleigh have some great winter warmer cocktails on their menu, including their Spiced Strudel cocktail, which tastes like a romantic night in the Bavarian Alps – toasty, boozy and amazing. If the cocktails don’t keep you glued to your seat, their warm oaky interiors will make you want to set up camp until summer returns (PSA: don’t actually set up camp, the staff are lovely, but have their limits). Fancy some food to accompany your alcohol? Get stuck into the goat curry, it’s divine, I Kid you not.

Wrap your mouth around a hearty meal

Slow Cooked meals are what make winter bearable. If like me, you’d rather stick pins in your eyes than wake up at 8am to prepare your dinner, hunting down hearty home-style restaurant meals is the only way to survive the winter months. Having done some extensive research, Harvest Moon in Burleigh is up there with the best of them. Tucked away down a quirky alley off James Street, this place serves food that just oozes home comfort. How does slow braised chilli caramel pork ribs with roasted pear sound? I’ll book the table now.

Wrap your eyes around an amazing view

There is nothing better than sitting inside next to a fireplace, looking out at a beautiful view and thinking about all the people outside, suffering in the cold. Not a Sadist? That’s okay, a good view and fireplace will please pretty much anyone. The Polish Place in Mount Tambourine is a bit off the beaten path, but there ain’t no mountain high enough to keep me away from a decadent fireplace. Plus, the place just looks like it belongs in a winter wonderland. If you like cute cottages, hearty food and sensational warmth, this is your Mecca.
