Bronwen Sciortino encourages us to look at how our intention-setting tasks have served in the past, and offers alternative ideas on how to make resolutions really count
Here we are again! Time flies so quickly – have you even had a chance to think about what’s ahead?
It’s about now that we’re bombarded with messages telling us about all the things we ‘need’ to be doing to be the best version of ourselves this year, and in the busy-ness of it all, it’s easy not to get caught up! ‘New year, new you’, ‘lose weight gained from festive over-consumption’, ‘get fitter, leaner, stronger…’.
On and on and on it goes. Exhausting!
What’s your annual process?
It’s important to switch off from this bombardment and really consider what you’d like to get out of the year ahead. If you’re not sure where to start, have a look at how you’ve set intentions in previous years, and ask yourself a few questions:
– What process have I used to set intentions?
– Do I have the same intentions each year?
– Have I achieved the goals I set for myself?
– Have I been hard on myself when I haven’t achieved what I set out to do?
Don’t stress – it’s not you, it’s the process
It’s highly likely that the reason you haven’t achieved your resolutions is because they weren’t yours anyway. Most of us set intentions based on the things that we’re told we ‘need’ to be doing.
Whether it’s our family, friends or Facebook, we’re regularly told about the things that are wrong, and the areas we need to ‘work on’.
A warning: whenever we follow what someone else thinks is right for us, we hand over control of our lives, and in the process, we end up living a life that isn’t ours.
Getting things done
Numerology for the year 2020 is 4 (2 + 0 + 2 + 0 = 4). The number four is recognised as the number of foundations, materiality, practicality and prosperity. It represents building doorways and it is the number of ‘work’: getting things done.
That means that 2020 is a year perfectly designed to focus on faith and trust, and to seriously start to create your life based on the perfect solution for YOU. What is it time that you said ‘YES’ to?
Perhaps now is the time to acknowledge that your intention-making process might not be serving you. I’d like to encourage you to step into a different way of thinking, one that involves less stress and provides you with an easier way to connect with what you truly need and desire.
From exhausted to energised…
Make the focus for 2020 the refuelling of yourself, so that you will always have the energy you need to truly enjoy your life.
Instead of trying to be a ‘better’ version of you, focus instead on being the ‘whole’ version of yourself.
You are unique and perfect exactly as you are. You don’t need to be better; you simply need to be whole.
There’s plenty of resources to get you started, both here in Get it, online and in your local community. If you’d like to join me on my own 2020 quest though, have a look at where I’m beginning, sheiqlife.com/7-steps-email-series.
