How to choose the right swimsuit

Do’s and don’ts of shopping for the most important summer outfit

Summer on the Gold Coast is hot, so hot that there are many days where the only sane place to be is in the water (preferably with a tropical cocktail in hand). But summer can be less fun in the sun and more hiding in the shade if you don’t feel comfortable in your swimsuit. Read on as we cover Gold Coast swimwear essentials.

Tight and right

Swimwear has come a long way and there really is a piece for everyone. If you don’t want to be adjusting yourself all day, limiting your movement or living in fear of something slipping out, ensure you find one that suits your body. If you have a larger chest opt for one with in-built cups, boning or a halter or bra strap style neckline. Nothing strapless, leave that to your smaller-busted friends. There is also a lot of control available in the tummy and waist area too. Boning, ruching and shaping technology all help to hold things tight and in the right place. High waisted bikini bottoms are on-trend right now so give them a go or stick to a great one piece.

Colour your day

Just like the clothing you wear day to day, you know what colours enhance your appearance and which can wash you out. Same applies for swimsuits. Blondes with pale skin try soft pinks, blues and beiges. Redheads go for white and cobalt blue. For brunettes with light skin, shades of blue will be your best bet. Olive skin brunette girls choose deep reds, black and army green swimsuits. And darker skin girls look amazing in yellows, baby blues and pinks and purples.

Cut it out

Swimsuits have a variety of cuts and you should choose a suit depending on your body shape. For the bikini bottom, or bottom half of a one piece, the way it is cut will do great or no-so great things to your bum. Smaller and round bum girls try a Brazilian cut – if you dare! A safe bet for any other bum shapes (flatter, wider, rectangle, curvy etc.) is a fuller cut bottom, that way you won’t spend half the day picking a wedgie. Higher back swimsuits will help to hide back fat and swim dresses or tankinis can help to conceal our less loved parts like thigh cellulite.

Cover up in style

Lastly, invest in some great cover ups that will allow you to hang by the pool or the each feeling confident and stylish. Kaftans, tunics and wraps keep you cool, calm and collected as you enjoy your summer day. And even better, there’s so many colour, style and shape options to suit everyone.
