Looking after your hair in winter!

Elise Synnott, Marketing Manager for Personal Care at Natures Organics, chats to us about hair care during the colder months

Now the temperature has started cooling down, the crisp weather and constant transition between outdoor and indoor heating can wreak havoc on your hair, causing it to dry out, cause static and get frizzy. A lot of people tend to focus on skin care during winter, as the dryness or irritation that can occur is a bit more immediately visible, but hair and scalp care is just as important.

Using products that help hair restore and retain its moisture is a great first step to ensuring your hair is nourished over autumn and winter. Look for shampoos, conditioners and treatments that include oils like avocado or coconut and other moisturising ingredients such as honey or shea butter. The cool dry air can also create problems for the scalp, causing it to dry out which can lead to dandruff and skin irritation. Moisturising ingredients like the ones mentioned above are also really beneficial to prevent your scalp from drying out too.

Avoid hair products that include parabens, petrochemicals and harsh detergents in their ingredients lists. All OC Naturals products are free from the nasties above and also SLES & ALS, triclosan, propylene glycol, EDTA, MIT & CMIT and mineral oils. Other botanical actives like lotus extract is high in protein which helps promote hair growth as does Aloe Vera, thanks to its special proteolytic enzymes that effectively break down dead skin cells on the scalp to prevent the clogging of hair follicles.

Booking in regular trims and minimising the use of styling tools will also help prevent hair from drying out on the ends and limiting the amount of times you tie your hair up in a ponytail will ease any strain at the root. Your hair builds its strength from the inside out so ensuring you’re eating plenty of nutritious foods like eggs, berries and spinach and drinking plenty of water, will all help your hair maintain its health in autumn and winter too.

Australian made and owned brand, OC Naturals’ new Silky Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner fights frizz and uses plant-based, botanical actives like moringa oil, lotus extract and Aloe Vera to help leave hair feeling moisturised, soft and smooth.
