Are you immune to your injectables?

While the effects of injectables last up to six months, you will have to have them done on the regular, and that can cause some women to become immune to the effects, says Dr Vivek Eranki, founder and CEO of Cosmetique.

“Quite a few women develop an immunity to their wrinkle relaxing injectables and this reduces the effectiveness of the treatments over time.  The good news is that there is a solution,” Dr Eranki said.

Resistance

“It is hypothesised that the older generation of wrinkle relaxant injectables in the market have a higher number of complex proteins attached to the key ingredient. Over time, your body may register these complex proteins as antigens and form antibodies to it. This makes the doses less effective,” Dr Eranki said.

Xeomin is a newer alternative. The active ingredient, Botulinum Toxin Type A, is purified of the complex proteins. It is the only purified injectable available in Australia and is not so commonly known. This can be a great option for women finding themselves in this situation.”

What is Xeomin?

According to Dr Eranki, the new product is similar to other injectables, in that the results of XEOMIN also help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in the areas around your eyebrows, forehead and eyes. The main difference is in how they are produced.

Which is more effective?

As a newer product on the market, Dr Eranki said people were often curious to know about how effective it is, as compared with other wrinkle relaxants.  “The great news is that some studies show Xeomin actually lasts longer than the other brands.”

Faster results

As well as Xeomin lasting longer, the results of it also appear earlier. You may see the effects of smoother skin in as early as just a couple of days after treatment, whereas with other injectables, it can take longer.

“As a society, we are all leaning towards things that give us more instant results, so XEOMIN® is a treatment we are seeing an increase in popularity for.”

Preventative effects

“Amazingly, Xeomin doesn’t just treat existing wrinkles, but even prevents against future ones from forming. These treatments actually encourage your skin to produce extra collagen, which is the protein responsible for keeping your skin looking plump and youthful,” Dr Eranki added.
