Romancing the Stone – The Langham

Words: Charmaine Yabsley
The Langham is the newest shiny jewel on the Gold Coast and the perfect place for a quick, romantic getaway.
When it comes to romantic getaways, all you need is a stunning view, mouthwatering meals, and sumptuous rooms. The Langham brings all this, and more, to your senses, making it the perfect romantic getaway. Nestled between Surfers Paradise and Main Beach, it’s far enough from the ‘main drag’ of Cavill Ave to avoid the crowds, yet close enough for you to walk to the various stores if you desire.
As you step into the marble foyer, it’s not the rose-covered telephone booth you first notice, or the Palm Court tearoom, with snug nooks and soaring ceilings, ideal for a romantic glass of champagne or two. It’s the heady scent, wafting from the foyer’s florist cartand ginger-scented air that finds its way into your senses, making you feel giddy with love and happiness. Even the staff are romance-themed, in their expertly-cut pink uniforms. It’s time, finally, to relax and enjoy a stay completely devoted to you and your loved one’s enjoyment.
First stop, the rooms. The hotel boasts 167 hotel guestrooms and suites, and 170 serviced apartments, found in the centre of the three Jewel towers. The Langham is the first luxury beachfront hotel to be built in more than three decades, and it sits confidently in its prized position, the true gem in the necklace of hotels strung along the Gold Coast. Once you have dragged your gaze away from the mesmerising sight of the ocean, your room with a view is a delight and ideal for couples, who like their romance with a hint of elegance. Stylish, spacious, and sensual, the calming palette soothes the senses while the large bathroom offers the ideal place to beautify yourself before heading downstairs.
Pack your glam frocks, because the Lobby Bar is where the bold and the beautiful congregate to sip on a Grand Jewel signature cocktail or enjoy an afternoon tea of delicacies. Served in the Palm Court, the afternoon teas at The Langham are reason enough to book a stay here. The afternoon traditions of yesteryear are evident here: if it wasn’t for the surfers and active-wearing walkers sighted from the windows, we could have been sipping our Earl Grey in 1800’s London.
After a quick Insta-worthy shot in the pink and flower-edged phone booth, we chose a comfortable space at the bar for a glass of champagne and a light snack. As the evening set and the lights of the glitter strip appeared one by one, we headed to the hotel’s beachfront restaurant Akoya. If food is your love language, then you’re in for a wonderfully delicious conversation. Inspired by the spirit of a coastal palette, and the pleasures of eating together, the menu is brimming with a bounty of Australia’s freshest and finest ingredients, with a particular focus on seafood –think freshly shucked oysters, bugs, and lobster. The setting sun which bounced off the gleaming silverware, throwing a golden hue over the diners, added to the romantic mood. (For an unforgettable fine dining experience, you could also opt for the Michelin-starred Coral Tang Court.)
After a gloriously restful sleep, we headed upstairs to the indoor spa and fitness centre. As we enter, we pass the most stylish kids’ club we’ve ever seen. You’ll be sure to meet your workout goals when you’re lifting weights while soaring over the ocean. If you prefer the great outdoors, there’s the new 36km ocean walk to explore, or you can just flop down beside the outdoor pool. Order poolside cocktails and snacks, while watching the world pass you by. Add a truly romantic touch to your stay, and book into the luxurious-and winner of two World Spa Awards and Australia’s Best Hotel Spa -Chuan Spa for a couples massage, followed by a swim in the indoor magnesium pool and steam away any vestiges of a late night in the steam room.
Throughout February, The Langham is offering a “Month of Love” couple’s package which includes your choice of a Dream Time facial or a Chuan Harmony massage (60 minutes). Couples can choose to have a different treatment (i.e.,onemassage, onefacial). Chocolate-dipped strawberries and a bottle of sparkling wine to enjoy in the Dreampods following your treatment. What you need to knowTo book your stay or meal at The Langham visit langhamhotels.com/en/the-langham/gold-coast
